Concerned about alleged looting and mismanagement of funds running into several millions of naira at the National Theatre, Lagos, workers under the umbrella of Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees have called on the Minister of Culture, Tourism and National Orientation, Chief Edem Duke, to investigate the alleged looting.
Specifically, the workers, in two separate letters dated July 26, 2013 and August 21, 2013 addressed to the minister and made available to naijapackage.co.nr, urged him to constitute a panel of enquiry on acts of corrupt practices and outright theft of public funds allegedly committed by Mallam Kabir Yusuf , General Manager of the National Theatre, Lagos.
But Mallam Yusuf in an interview with naijapackage.co.nr on telephone yesterday dismissed all the allegations against him, insisting that the workers’ union should allow the anti-graft agencies they have petitioned to do their job.
The workers, in a petition signed by eight union officials led by Dayo Akogun, its chairman, alleged that the General Manager of National Theatre siphoned N10.1million from National Theatre account via a fictitious roundtable stakeholders’ conference between 13th and 14th November, 2009.
